A Chapter Closes

Dear Addie,

Summer is almost here and your Kindergarten (AU1) year is officially on countdown to completion. Soon you will be a rising 1st grader (special education equivalent) at our beloved Oakview.

These days you soak up every last minute of sleep in the mornings - practicing for summer vacation I suppose. Your daily information folder from school is torn and weathered, right along with your second pair of shoes for the year. Your backpack that looked so big on you in the fall, now shows me just how much you've grown by looking a bit snug.

I see "big kid Addie" now & its bittersweet.

Your mannerisms are becoming more mature. Although your stimming is still rather loud and pronounced, you seem to be following direction or listening much better right through it.

We have both made new friends that we will cherish forever, even if the future will inevitably bring distance between some us.

We've had more good days then challenging ones, and for that we are so very grateful!

I'm so proud of you Addie! You did an amazing job this year!

We will take a welcomed break from IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings, and learn to adjust to a new schedule - our "summer normal" which hopefully includes more sleep (baby girl, I fully support this!). In addition to that, we will get to participate in that all too important therapy that wasn't available during our school your.

But please do not worry Addie, there will still be plenty of time for jumping in pools, crashing in the waves, BBQing, and an endless supply of popsicles to beat the NC heat! Side note: mommy LOVES the silly popsicle stick jokes! Apparently it doesn't take much to make me laugh and I love to laugh!

So yes, this school year is almost done, and we will close the chapter on Kindergarten for our dream team. I once again have not yet mastered my super hero powers of freezing time ;). It's OK though Addie, because I've truly enjoyed watching you grow and learn every single day.

Our long summer days together are almost here and I can't wait! Keep working hard sweetie! You're doing great!

Love,

Mom
