Dear Addie,
Many people may not realize that, in addition to receiving academic support and speech therapy at school, you also learn and develop valuable life skills. Now whenever I mention "life skills," the first areas that often come to mind for people are self-care, problem-solving, time management, and communication. However, it's important to understand that life skills encompass so much more than just these essential areas, which brings me to this week.
This week at school you learned about empathy, compassion, and kindness through making "blessing bags" for those in need—an act and life skill that has no judgment, but rather an abundance of love in how we treat others. Addie the weather on our journey through life can be wildly unpredictable and inevitably we may all see storms roll through. A simple act of kindness towards someone could be just the break in the clouds they long for and need.
One of my favorite quotes by the great Maya Angelou captures this life skill of kindness and compassion best: "Be the rainbow in somebody else's cloud."

This week, you learned about the importance of giving and helping others, an essential life skill centered around kindness and empathy.
I'm so very proud of you Addie. Keep being the good that this world needs.
Love,
Mom
