Fire Trucks

Dear Addie,

...and then you were all about fire trucks. Honestly, something I never thought I would say with you having a hypersensitive auditory system, but just like the varying degrees of autism auditory disorders are very similar.

Allow me to explain.

We have two dogs. One howls like crazy and it doesn't bother you a bit, the other has a deeper tone in her bark and it's the worst auditory assault you could imagine. It's all about the tone and you never know when you are out and about which ones are going to come up and make your skin crawl - so headphones are your saving grace in public most days. Although we are working through weaning off of them using more coping skills, but I digress. These days I've noticed you will move your headphones back off one of your ears to hear a firetruck of all things (or any emergency response vehicle for that matter) when it goes by. There's a definite intrigue and fascination every single time

Fast forward to this morning when we could've sworn there was a fire truck outside close by if not in our driveway, but much to our surprise it was in fact your newfound talent of being able to imitate the exact sound of a fire truck, and my goodness was it ever spot on! I mean this was AGT talent-worthy to me! Apparently, you thought the missing sheets from your bed that I was washing were an emergency and you wanted to alert us all. Noted!

*Sound on!

Addie this week we discovered a hidden talent you had and it's very good. Just another week of you keeping us on our toes of new and exciting things from you.

Much love,

Mom
