Here Comes Santa

Dear Addie,

This week we had some surprise visitors! Seriously Addie, not even mommy and daddy knew they were coming!

As we all sat just relaxing after dinner...Daddy watching football, Clara and Gabe getting a little screen time, and you and I in the craft room – playing your new favorite sensory game called “bury your hands in a container of tiny beads, then toss them around the room (otherwise known to Clara and Gabe as "Mom, Addie is making a huge mess!" Lol)!

The doorbell rang, sending our trusty coonhound, Ruby, into action - barking and tearing off running for the door. We weren't expecting anyone, so who could it be? It was dark so we couldn't quite tell right away, but then we recognized our dear friend Miss Tammy...but who were the others standing behind her? - Only the two most recognizable faces of the season! That's right, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Wait. What is happening right now?!?

With no time to think, only to do, you dove into this experience, both feet! We obviously welcomed them all in! Clara and Gabe stood in shock, I promise you you could almost see the magic of Christmas in their eyes! Two of the most talkative kids on earth became completely speechless!

You my love, were oblivious to what was happening, still just enthralled with your own sensory play in the other room.

Not gonna lie, I got a little knot in my stomach, not knowing exactly how this was going to go for you...but there was no turning back!

I went back into the room, then Miss Tammy followed. I don't even think you looked up from what you were doing, then our surprise guests entered the room. Still not even a look from you, for nothing was more intriguing then those tiny beads...until you heard Santa’s bells!

You immediately looked up and stared at the two of them. We could see in your eyes that you were immediately inspecting everything about this current situation. They stood quiet and only smiled, as if they knew you were processing all this and waited for their cue to engage with you.

Then it happened, you flashed a smile and they slowly moved closer to you, even gingerly kneeling down to where you were. You began to happily stim at all this excitement! Even repeating the words "Santa Claus" after mommy. It was a success!

Santa gave a big "Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas!" Then with some hugs...including a few extra from Clara and Gabe they were on their way.

So my dear, in our little world where I plan about planning, and attempt to predict the unpredictable, it was quite refreshing to have such spontaneity brought to us! ...and I can now stop worrying about how our "Sensory Santa Breakfast" will go in a few weeks ;).

So, no matter how this spontaneous meeting happened, we are grateful to have stood witness to some real Christmas magic for our whole family!

What a perfect way, to start such a magical season!

So happy for you!

Love,

Mom
