Slurpee Waters

Dear Addie,

And just like that, it was finally spring break and for an added bonus, all three of you dream team kiddos had the same days off! Halleluiah! I honestly don’t remember the last time that has happened with you all being in 3 different schools. Usually, someone is having to miss or do online school to accommodate the majority, but here we are 2022 in a perfect scenario of family rest and relaxation all together. Only one way to celebrate that - to the beach we shall go – happy place OBX 2022! Let’s do this!

Now, Addie, it’s April in North Carolina so the weather is pretty much darn near perfect in my mind…generally 70’s with some fluctuation between the 60's and 80's, you know for some added flair, but all in all most definitely a range I can wrap my head around. I could do without the pollenpalooza however (if you know, you know), but even that hasn’t been too bad and pretty manageable this year so it’s all good. With the temps reaching into the high 70’s and 80’s this week in our happy beach place, one would easily say – Beach Day!!!!! But the water temp didn’t understand the assignment…did you care? …not so much, which brings me to a thankfulness I didn’t see coming – wetsuits!

That’s right Ad, wetsuits. You, my dear, see the ocean and just think - I should be in there. Period. End of story. Seriously even if there were icebergs floating by, you’d literally think nothing of it. With you having a hypo-sensitive somatosensory system (that’s the part of the sensory system responsible for feeling hot and cold, smooth or rough, etc.) it makes it rather tolerable for you to frolic in 50-degree water, the rest of us however feel like we are swimming in a 7/11 Slurpee. Brrrrrrrrr. The answer - insert the wetsuit – actually, insert us into a wetsuit! Yes, please & thank you!

While this is a great idea for the rest of us, even if it takes two teenagers assisting hoisting mommy into such a get-up (a sight to be seen no doubt), there’s no way we’d ever get you into such a thing. Instead, it is a game of getting you out of the water to warm up a little more than usual while we remain thankful for my teenager’s muscles & assistance, I mean wetsuits.

Addie, there’s always something to be thankful for, and this week it was time spent together and wetsuits, definitely wetsuits. Because it’s for them that we can manage Slurpee waters that make you oh so happy.

Love you Ad.
