Dear Addie,
I was just talking to Nana a few weeks ago as she and Papa were preparing for a trip to North Carolina. I mentioned to them that we should really visit Asheville while they are here one of these times. I boasted about its beauty and vibe, but honestly, anyone who has visited there knows - you really just have to be there to absorb the simplicity and peace it has to offer. Never did I think this wouldn't be a possibility.
Fast forward a week later and Western NC, including the beautiful town of Asheville was all but gone from a catastrophic hurricane. Wind, mudslides, landslides, and flooding erased its peace and tranquility, claiming nearly 200 lives to date in its aftermath. Roads are unpassable, houses and families have been swept away, and food, water, and electricity are scarce if existing. Those who were lucky enough to call it home, now have nothing but memories reduced to rubble and mud.

Its truly devastating.
The great Mr. Rogers once said:
"All of us, at some point of time or other, need help. Whether we're giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That's one of the things that connects us as neighbors - in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver."
Addie this week, we continue to find ways to help our western neighbors through this unthinkable disaster. This week was our time to be the givers.

Amidst the unimaginable tragedy our region and community are experiencing, we want to thank our State Parks team, who made it to the Rock and proudly raised the flag as a beacon of hope for all of Western North Carolina. This photo was taken by them on Monday, September 30th.
