The Longest Game

Dear Addie,

This flu virus, I’m pretty sure set a record for me washing sheets, giving baths, and, quite literally, catching vomit in my hands, on my shirt, in a bowl, or in bags - and not my own mind you. I know it’s TMI, but a mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do. With our unwelcome flu house guest, there was a lot of "doing" for me as you were trying to shake this virus. A virus that we were told had to "run it's course" to which I'm convinced was a course designed by those who created American Ninja Warriors, but I digress.

Addie, I believe that one of the most challenging aspects of life is understanding the importance of patience. It influences nearly every part of our lives as we are constantly learning about it, losing it, testing it, or practicing it daily. Sometimes even being lucky enough to experience every facet if them in one day - said with a heavy dose of sarcasm.

I'm pretty sure that anyone traveling down this road would agree that it is filled with a lot of love, but also with its fair share of challenges. At times, it can feel dark and unfair, and I won’t deny that I have felt this way at various points in my life on this journey. I am human, after all. However, there are moments when you manage to overcome obstacles that feel almost instinctual, as if they were specifically designed to test your resilience. This realization brings to light that the challenges we face along the way ultimately prepare us for life’s curveballs. They equip us for the times when patience, time, and love are what we need most.

Addie, this week you continued the ups and downs of the flu, but I'm happy to report we are FINALLY on the back end of it. It has tested all of us in the longest game of patience ever, but I'm so proud at how well you have handled this.

Now we can get back to figuring out who let those dogs out ;)

I love you baby girl,

Mom
